Crochet Shop Names - How to Come up with a Business Name When I Decided to Write Crochet Patterns
This article describes how my crochet business names happened to fruition. They include my eBay, Etsy, and Blog. I write and sell my crochet patterns. The following paragraphs emphasize from a personal perspective how they took place.
My Craft Business and The Covid-19 Pandemic
When the Covid-19 pandemic arrived in March 2020, I focused on my unique crochet techniques. In the beginning, customers ordered hats with color varieties next to the name in the picture. After completion, I sent it to their physical address. They bought from overseas. Faraway places included England, the Netherlands, Paris, France, etc. How exceptional is that? I often imagined that it was me who was traveling.
From Crocheting Hats to Writing Crochet Patterns
In 2006, I started my Etsy shop selling my own designs of crocheted hats and PDF patterns I had written. In March 2020, the pandemic took its toll. My spouse and I helped others adjust to their ways of life during the coronavirus pandemic. One case involved friends, a married couple. We drove to their house 16 miles round trip every day, seven days a week. We dog and house sat while it stranded them outside the USA. I wrote patterns by popular demand that allowed me a passive income. The purchaser ordered and downloaded them.
Although I loved crocheting
Although I loved crocheting, I did not have to spend hours doing it. I loved meeting people and creating friendships with fellow crocheters. I did my best to do everything. That is the industry and life.
How did I get my Etsy Shop Name, strawberrycouture?
It is self-explanatory. My husband and I moved to Texas in 2001. I worked at Hancock Fabrics from 2001 to 2003 before reaching bankruptcy on July 27, 2016. To come up with a name, you must be authentic. Resonate with subjects you experience. My maiden name is Berry. It was easy for my elementary school gym teacher to call me a strawberry. The class teased me because of my last name. Then came the name couture. Louise Couture, my late grandmother, crocheted after retiring from her education career. She crocheted afghans with pop-up flowers for others. If someone got married or had a baby, she made it. Tell her any occasion. She carried out the gift. Her hands always had to move. The crochet fitted the bill. She felt cheerful. Wherever we visited the place, she was restless to arrive. So the two names formed: strawberry and couture. Which one sounded better, strawberrycouture or couturestrawberry? Repeat each name countless times. I left with the original. The rest is history.
Handicrafts Websites: Why not have a handmade version of eBay? Etsy.
One midnight, I browsed through my computer. I asked myself, Why not have a handmade adaptation to eBay? I auctioned on eBay. If I knew then what I perceive now, eBay undercuts prices. In history, I peddled a few homemade items. I received a pleasant report from a purchaser. One of my creations included two hand-sewn crazy quilt pillow covers with cushions inside for $20.00. The positive review read, Love these pillows. I want more! I moved that out into the next selling venue. Then one night in 2006, I ran across Etsy.
It resembled the eBay model of handmade. I signed up that night and determined this could be it. To make a long story short, I switched to crochet. Through changes, I could never quit. Sometimes I felt tempted, but I kept going. Basic and decoration stitches are what I now write about on my crochet website.
I blog the essential crochet techniques that I apply in my crochet patterns. They are in more detail than the Etsy listings themselves. Sure, each listing mentions which stitches are in the arrangement. My blog describes it more. One part is how to make a shell stitch in the vertical post. My Karen hat pattern uses that technique.

My Name for Crochet Business
Since beginning on Etsy in 2006, Google knows I have authority over the name strawberrycouture.
Enter “strawberry” in the Google search bar. Strawberries in the search will pop up. Now, type strawberrycouture. My hats will come out. Which name are you most likely to recall, crochet-play-with-yarn.com or crochetplay.com? One choice was crochetpray.com, but I’m not creating or selling religious objects.
Other related names became accessible, but they were for sale. These listed for a few hundred or thousand dollars. I preferred to start from scratch on my own.
There you have it. I hope this story gave you lots to ponder by reading and meditating on this matter.
